A forest engagement ring

Hello! I hope you are well and enjoying the summer time. Hasn’t it been lovely to be able to be out more this year, being able to explore and travel- it’s wonderful to have freedom back after so long.

One lovely thing now with more freedom is that events and weddings have been going ahead as normal, so I’ve been making more wedding and engagement rings. An engagement ring that I’ve been planning for some time is this white gold leafy ring, set with a stunning Australian sapphire. The sapphire was from a company called Capricorn Gems who supply traceable stones, responsibly mined in the Central Queensland region of Australia. My client had a particular shade of green in mind and this teal green was the perfect hue.

Once I’d sourced the gemstone I worked on drawings based on my client’s ideas. He told me a little about his partner, that she’s a lover of nature, and that the symbol of triskeles would be a meaningful representation of what is important to her, as it respresents femininity and motherhood. I drew some rough ideas first which were then narrowed down to more refined design ideas:

We went ahead with the top design, with leaves, an intertwining celtic band, and three subtle spirals carved into the bark, to represent the spirals of the triskeles symbol. You can see the carved triskeles spiral details on the wax, before it was cast in 14ct white gold:

The final ring design turned out beautifully, with delicate leaves framing the stunning green sapphire.

My client very kindly shared their engagement photographs- they are so beautiful and they look so happy! Making such meaningful jewellery for special people is a real privilege.
