New Work
Hi everyone! I hope you’re well and managing through this strange year. Like many of you I’ve been worried about the current state of affairs and feel like there’s a big question mark over our future. But I’ve also been embracing feelings of hope and positivity more than ever- if anything this year has highlighted what is truly important, human connection being one of them.
The thing that captivates me the most about jewellery is the meaning it can hold, a symbol of love and connect between people, so it’s been extra special creating commissions and bespoke pieces for clients. I’ve had some really fun commissions that I’ve enjoyed creating.
I created this beautiful brooch for my client, inspired by mandalas and the shape of a lotus flower. She sent me a beautiful opal to work with and I created the shape of the brooch in wax, before finishing off in silver. The back of the brooch features a hidden bail so my client could wear it as a necklace if she wished. It was different from my usual more organic work but the process of making something symmetrical and geometric was really satisfying.
I had the opportunity to create something a little different for another client, a little lion miniature, designed for her sister who is a Leo. She asked me to make the lion look like Aslan and as majestic as possible! This one was a fun piece to create; getting the proportions and features on such a tiny scale was an enjoyable challenge. I started by creating a very basic body shape in wax, breaking it down into its simplest forms, before adding and building up detail in relief wax, and carving into this to create fur textures.
Here he is cast into silver:
It’s been really lovely being able to make one of a kind pieces of jewellery for people this year. I’ve been doing more of it lately and I have been finding the variety and challenge of the work so enjoyable. I love hearing your ideas and transforming them into precious pieces of jewellery to treasure!
