Wedding ring set

Happy 2019 everyone, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

I wanted to share a commission I worked on at the end of last year and at the beginning of January. It was such an exciting job to work on to get the year started! A lovely bride-to-be got in touch looking for a wedding ring and engagement ring for her wedding in the summer. She was keen on our grey diamond wheat ring and another ring to go alongside it, although we started the process by looking at a couple of other ideas too. In the end she decided to go with the wheat design, and I created a wishbone shaped ring to sit beside it. Wheat has long featured on jewellery as a symbol of abundance, love and happiness- a fitting emblem for such special rings. I use a variety of different waxes for my designs but for ring designs like this one, I love using Kate Wolf jeweller’s wax, I find it carves beautifully and has a little bit of flexibility so stays nice and strong. I use Wolf carving tools to etch details, like the repeat wheat design, before buffing down softly with sandpaper. Here are the finished waxes, ready for casting:

After casting, the rings needed some further refining, with a setting soldered on for the gemstone. An ethereal opaque diamond was chosen for the stone, to suit the bride’s cool and muted colour preference. Here are the finished rings, I hope you like them!
