I won an Award!

Hello, I hope you’re well. The last months have whizzed by so quickly, I’ve had my hands full working on an upcoming collection and new commissions, teaching jewellery classes, and exhibiting at Henley arts trail. The most exciting thing that happened earlier in the year is that I won an award! I’ve been working towards entering my work to the Goldsmiths Design and Craftsmanship awards for a few years. I set aside some time to create and enter a piece of my wax carving work for the 3D modeller’s category. To my delight, I won a silver award!

“Sunflower Netsuke”, hand carved jeweller’s wax.

The piece is a netsuke in the form of a sunflower. Netsuke are a type of Japanese miniature sculpture and style of jewellery that were originally worn on a kimono. I created a video that shows the stages of the carving process, if you would like to have a look.

I’m incredibly proud of this achievement and it’s a real boost to my confidence to be recognised by the industry. The awards ceremony took place at the majestic Goldsmiths Hall, one of the oldest guilds in London. It was a very special evening.

I’m delighted to share that my award winning piece has been selected as part of the Goldsmiths Summer exhibition which will take place at the Goldsmiths Centre, from the 3rd July until the 12th September. Here is some information about the exhibition. It’s free to visit, and there will be some incredible work on display by the UK’s most talented jewellers, silversmiths, and craftspeople. If you have a chance, please take a look. The address is Goldsmiths Centre, 42 Britton St, EC1M 5AD- the nearest train and tube station is Farringdon.

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement,
